FROM
THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Dear
Parents/ Caregivers,
Last week our school
participated in the Hawkesbury Schools Dance Festival and each student
who took part should be very proud of their wonderful performances. The
Stage 3 dance group on Monday evening not only danced with skill and
ability but looked bright, happy, and beautiful. On Tuesday night our
Stage 1 and Stage 2 dance groups were wonderful and received a great
audience ovation. All these students and their teachers have worked very
hard to reach these high levels of performance. Congratulations! Thank
you especially to Mrs Killin, Mrs Edgecombe, Miss Carroll, Mrs
McPherson, Mrs Maclean and to the many parents and friends who assisted
with the preparations and transport.A special thank you goes to Mrs June
Horvarth, Chloe and Amber Braushi’s grandmother, for making the
beautiful costumes for each the dance groups. You are a very special
lady!
Our first
Kindergarten Transition session last Thursday was very successful with
both children and parents giving very positive responses and reports.
This program will continue each Thursday until the end of November, 9.00
- 11.00am in our Supported Classes classrooms. Mrs Julie Grigoriadis our
Community Connections contact officer will also continue with the parent
group and playgroup for younger siblings as part of our transition
program this year.
Thank you to the
parents, friends and staff of our Support Unit who attended the
Hawkesbury Fishing Classic yesterday for the draw of
the Monster Raffle. It
was a busy and wet day for our group who were in-charge of feeding the
many people who attended. I believe there were many compliments to the
cooks and to the workers on the day. Thank you to all our community
members who purchased tickets. The boat was won by a Mr Johnson, not
from our school; however our student, Jack Wenzel had the honour of
drawing out the winning ticket. Well done Jack!
This week we have
two teams competing in the Milo Cricket Competition, thank you to Mr
Edgecombe for organising this for our students. Next week
three students from our school will compete in the
Semi Finals of the Hawkesbury District Public Speaking Competition which
is being held at Londonderry Public School. We wish Jazmine Hart from
Stage 3 and Stephanie Pitt and Emily Hamilton from Stage 2 all the best
for this competition. Thank you to Miss Brennan for working with these
students.
Last week I met with a team from the Multiplex Company who
will be managing the building of our two new rooms and the extension of
the Supported Classes play area under the Commonwealth Governments BER
program. This group was accompanied by a representative from the company
managing bushfire hazard risk and an arborist who outline the
requirement to reduce the area of shrubs, trees and undergrowth around
the new buildings. The information they have given is that this will
happen during the next school holiday period with work to commence on
the building now scheduled for early next year. This is of course not
the same as the information I had received earlier, however, I am aware
of the scope of the BER project and therefore I am sure timeframes will
be constantly adjusted. Please be assured that any work taking place in
the school under this project is managed following strict Occupational
Health and Safety requirements and our students and school community
will be informed of each step along the way.

SCHOOL
CAR PARK
If
you drive your child/children to school please drop them off outside the
school gates.
Please arrive and leave the school grounds by the paths,
not through the car park. The children know the car park is
out of bounds and if they are walking through it with parents or carers
this rule can be confusing for them. The children in the
Support Unit are dropped off outside their classroom door by taxi in the
morning and afternoon. Our own school bus also needs to be able to move
freely within the car park. The car park is also very busy in the
morning and afternoon with staff arriving or leaving and with buses from
Before and After School Care facilities arriving and leaving. During
these times there can also be trucks entering or leaving the car park
due to deliveries for the school. Therefore the area behind the Hall is
for deliveries or for picking up of sick or injured children only.
Thank you for your co
operation in helping to ensure the safety of the students.
