  • ABSENCES

Partial Absence slips must be obtained from the office whenever children are taken out of school during school hours.  Any child arriving late to school must obtain a Partial Absence slip from the front office, before they go to class, to give to their teacher.

Student absences require either a written explanation within 3 days of the absence or you can notify the office where a Verbal Notification of absence is recorded and passed on to the teacher.

Permission to leave school during school hours must be approved by either the Principal or an Assistant Principal.

Students who have unexplained absences may be referred to the Home School Liaison Officer for further investigation.

NB: Any person collecting a child during school hours must be an over 18 years old and listed on the student contact details. If the person is not listed PLEASE CALL THE SCHOOL PRIOR to the child being collected. Proof of identity will be required by the office before a Partial Absence note is issued. If a written note from the parent/caregiver is presented to the office but this person is not on the contact list, verbal verification will be sought.

These procedures are put in place to protect your child and execute our duty of care.  Adhering to this process will avoid any inconvenience to you, caused by the need for contact to verify arrangements.

  •  ACCIDENT / ILLNESS / SICK BAY PROCEDURES

Children should not be sent to school if unwell.

Administration and Support Staff administer MINOR first aid only and are permitted to administer Panadol or  Aspirin, apply creams or sprays or take out splinters.

If sent to sick bay with a minor illness or injury, the student will be permitted to rest for 20 minutes. If there is no sign of  improvement the Parent/Caregiver will be contacted.

Vomiting is a notifiable incident. Parent/Caregivers will be requested to collect their child immediately and if the Parent/Caregiver cannot be contacted their emergency contact will be called.

Toileting mishaps will be attended to by supplying the child with a change of clothes if available. If no spare clothes are available the Parent/Caregiver will be contacted and asked to bring a change a clothes to the school. If clothes are loaned to the child PLEASE WASH and return ASAP.

*Head or eye injuries require Parents/Caregivers to be notified immediately and asked to come and check the child to decide on the most appropriate course of action.
NB: Eyes can only be washed out with water.

Asthma Registration forms must be completed if your child is an Asthmatic. Students may carry their own personal Ventolin in their school bag or if preferred it can be kept at the office but must be clearly labelled with a name and class. Ventolin is available from the office in an emergency. Nebulisers are no longer permitted to be administered at school. If a child is on a Nebuliser constantly, then the guidelines are that the child is not well enough to attend school.

In the event of a critical incident e.g. severe asthma attack, possible concussion, possible fracture, epileptic fit etc. the Parents/Caregivers will be notified immediately and if Parents/Caregivers cannot be located an ambulance will be called by the school. The school has full ambulance cover.

If Parents/Caregivers and emergency contacts cannot be contacted a note will be sent home giving the reason the student was in sick bay, how long the child was in sick bay and the details of any first aid administered. Parents/Caregivers are asked to check the condition of the student and seek follow up medical attention if necessary.

  •  ADMINISTRATION OF PRESCRIBED MEDICATIONS

If medication is to be administered during school hours a copy of the prescription or a letter from the prescribing doctor (on letterhead) is to be given to the office and  a school medication form is to be completed. This includes both long and short term administration of medications.

NB: NO medication other than an Asthma puffer and/or an Epipen is to be kept on a student. All other medications must be kept in a secure location and administered under supervision.
